Claude Duet AI Agent: What Small Businesses Can Do Today
Anthropic announced Claude Duet, an AI agent for professionals and small business owners. What it does, who can get it (US Pro and Max, via waitlist), its approval safeguards, and how a small business should start.

Anthropic has announced Claude Duet, an AI agent built for professionals and small business owners. It is launching as a research preview, so this is what Anthropic says it does, not a hands-on test. I have not used it yet.
What happened
Claude Duet runs on Claude Opus 5.5 and is available as a standalone iOS and Android app and through Claude on the web. The Verge reports it is positioned against Meta's Muse and OpenAI's Dots.
Access is limited for now: there is a waitlist, and you need a Claude Pro or Max subscription in the US.
What it does
According to Anthropic, Duet works across the apps you connect to it:
- A morning brief. Each morning it sends a short summary of the most important items across your connected apps.
- Watching for you. During the day it keeps tabs on those apps and messages you only when something needs your attention.
- Handing it work. You can give it tasks from scheduling meetings to building dashboards, drafting financial or sales forecasts, prototyping, and building web apps.
It reuses the memory, skills and connected apps you already have in Claude, and it has its own virtual machine with a browser to get work done.
The safety rails
Before a big step, such as sending a payment or deleting something, Duet asks you for approval. Anthropic also added a dedicated classifier and safety prompt meant to refuse sharing the most sensitive data, such as credit card numbers.
How mature it is
Anthropic calls this an early version. It says Duet may still misread a thread or misjudge what is urgent, and that it is not as strong at personal errands like booking tickets.
What it means for a small business
The pitch is an assistant that watches your inbox, calendar and tools and does the admin around them, with approval gates on anything risky. That is the right shape for a one-person or small team.
What I would do now:
- Join the waitlist if you are a US Pro or Max subscriber.
- Start with read-only jobs. Let it brief you and flag items before you let it act.
- Keep the approval step on for anything that sends, pays or deletes, and check its work for the first few weeks, since Anthropic itself says it can misjudge urgency.
- List the admin you repeat every week. Those are the first tasks worth handing over once you have access.
I will write a hands-on follow-up once I have access.
