Briefing #1: Simbe, Persona AI, Agility, and my bet
Three robot stories, one question: how far is each from a repeat customer? Simbe's 3,000 contracted units, Persona AI's shipyard welder and Agility's $300M order claim, with how mature each is.

Three robot stories this week, and I read all three the same way: how far is each company from a repeat customer?
Simbe: 3,000 Tally robots under contract
On September 21, 2026, Simbe Robotics said it has passed 3,000 autonomous units under contract across more than 75 retail banners in nearly a dozen countries. The number counts contracts, not robots confirmed in stores, and Simbe does not say how many are deployed. Tally has worked in stores for about ten years.
My read: the most mature of the three. Shelf scanning is a narrow job with a clear output, which is why it sells. If you run retail, ask any vendor how many units are live, not how many are signed.
Persona AI: a humanoid welder for shipyards
On March 23, 2026, HD Hyundai announced a joint development agreement with HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, HD Hyundai Robotics and Persona AI, after a positive evaluation of Persona's prototype. The first task is long, linear welds. No deployment date has been set.
My read: early, and a sound first job. Shipyards are short of welders and long straight welds are punishing work. For anyone outside shipbuilding, this is a signal, not a product.
Agility Robotics: watch the orders
On June 24, 2026, Agility Robotics announced a merger with the blank-check company Churchill Capital Corp XI at a $2.5 billion pre-money valuation. Press coverage says Agility reports more than $300 million in multi-year orders for Digit v5. The figure is a company claim, customer concentration is not disclosed, and the merger has not closed.
My read: a big backlog says little if one buyer holds most of it. I'd ask for references from sites that have run Digit for months.
My verdict
If I had to bet on one of the three to show second orders first, it is Simbe: the job is narrow and the product has ten years in stores. Persona is the most interesting technically and the furthest from revenue. Agility's number only means something once we know how many customers sit behind it.
I'll follow each one until it shows second orders. Follow the Briefing to get the next issue on Tuesday.
